The other night before bed, Catherine read a portion of scripture to me.
I smiled at the tone of her voice as she read.
It was filled with awe and love and trust and admiration.
What do I mean, you may ask?
Her tone, represented a love and longing to learn more of who God is.
And that got me thinking…
TONE is crucial.
We think of how people speak to us. When someone speaks with an aggressive tone… a lot of us retreat from such a person. The tone puts us off! “Don’t shout at me with orders or whatever!” And even we are in a position where we ‘have to obey’ – we do the task begrudgingly.
If people changed their tone in certain situations and conversations they’d probably get better responses…
Back to scripture. How do we approach God’s word?
Is our tone, that of a scientist?
Or of a pessimist?
Or of an angry person?
Then perhaps when reading parts of scripture; the God “we discover” comes across as angry or negative or as “just science.”
Does this make sense for anyone?
Anyway, it’s just a thought I had. Take it or leave it. Comment or don’t.
Have a good Thursday evening!
Over and out…
