Watched this video by Rise Against again last week and just thought about the beauty of the ordinary.  The commitment to it.  The respect of it.

the video depicts a man doing his best to pay the bills.
it shows ordinary people.
going through everyday stuff.

(i have been thinking about this post over the last two weeks or so)
There is a lot of beauty in the ordinary.
I thought of various things:

The person who pauses to appreciate the sunset
The couple enjoying a film together
The unseen helper: a person who helps another and it is not “shared” online…
The kids riding their bicycles around their neighbourhood
The older brother who goes and watches all his brother’s games
The dad and mom celebrating the picture drawn for them by their three year old
The guy who gets butterflies when he sees the girl he loves
The gentleman who carries a heavy load for a lady
The girl lost in the pages of her latest novel
The man playing fetch with his dog
The couple who still holds hands after many years or marriage
The husband and wife who are still willing to say sorry
The person who sings behind their steering wheel as if they’re at a rock show
The friends who laugh with reckless abandon
The person who says no to their addiction

Enjoying and savouring a meal
When you feel “set free”
Excercising chivalry
When you put in extra effort to accomplish a difficult task
Those late hours cramming to do well in an exam
Going for a run
Giving to someone in need
Sending a message of encouragement
Resting on a park bench

Life is full of beautiful ordinary moments

  1. Darrel,
I enjoyed this post a lot. I too love to pause and enjoy those things that seem to be disappearing with the ‘credits’ of the day.
